  35. 1.0 INTRODUCTION

  38. 1.1  What is Matchup baseball?

  41.   Matchup baseball is a type of baseball simulator.  It was created to 
  42. analyze the statistics of baseball for purposes of:  Enjoyment, comparison, 
  43. future predictions, rainouts and even strike shortened seasons. It allows
  44. for the Matchups that were never possible.  Players of today can face the 
  45. greats from earlier eras.    
  46.  
  47.  Pick the teams to Matchup and playball. You control the speed of simulation 
  48. or you can use the Lightning feature to complete a game in just seconds.  
  49. View the statistics of the game you just completed and compile them to keep 
  50. track of a seven-game series, an entire season or whatever you wish.  
  51. Select REMATCH to repeat the last Matchup.  Play 1-on-1 Matchup Mode to 
  52. fill a lineup with the same player. Even Edit/Create your own teams!

  54.  Even though there are an infinite number of factors involved in the outcome 
  55. of a baseball game, Matchup baseball gives a close approximation of outcomes 
  56. that is quite impressive.

  61. The Registered version includes: 
  62.  Matchup.exe  - DOS version, partly used with windows version.
  63.  Winmatch.exe - Windows version.

  67.  Teams.exe    - Edit/Create your own teams, (Registered only)

  77. - COMPILE : The registered version includes a compile feature to keep track 
  78.     of statistics for a seven game series, an entire season, or whatever 
  79.     you want.

  81. - EDIT / CREATE : Teams.exe is a team editor to create or edit teams

  83. - REMATCH : A rematch feature to Matchup the last two teams played quicker.

  85. - ONE-ON-ONE MATCHUP MODE : A one-on-one Matchup mode that fills a roster 
  86.     of the same player.

  88. - VIEW : View a Matchup Baseball team roster (*.bb) or your compiled stats 
  89.     (*.cmp).

  91. 1.4 How to play
  92. ---------------
  93.  Under windows or DOS, you just select the Home and Visiting teams along
  94. with their respective starting pitchers and playball. You have the ability
  95. to control the speed of game simulation.  Use the Lightning feature to 
  96. complete the game in just seconds.  Use the Step through feature to skip
  97. the suspensful play-by-play.  View the statistics of the game you just 
  98. completed and compile them to keep track of a seven game series, an entire 
  99. season or whatever you wish.  Select REMATCH to repeat the last Matchup.  
  100. Select COMPILE to keep track of statistics.  Play 1-on-1 Matchup Mode to 
  101. fill a lineup with the same player. Even Edit/Create your own teams!

  107. 2.1  Execution windows version

  110. Windows version - You can run Winmatch.exe like any other windows file, 
  111.  however, for best results, create an icon and set the working directory 
  112.  to the same directory as where Winmatch.exe exists, or use file manager
  113.  and select Winmatch.exe from there.  Matchup.exe must be in the same
  114.  directory or one that is in the path, as well as vbrun300.dll and
  115.  threed.vbx.

  117. 2.2 DOS version
  118. ---------------

  120. DOS version - You don't need windows to run Matchup baseball.  The DOS
  121.  version will do just great, just type matchup.  Command line arguments
  122.  are also available for quicker team selection but not necessary, just type
  123.  matchup /? for help.

  132. There has never been any problems, matchup baseball just makes calculations, 
  133. but just in case, I assume no responsibility for any data, or any form of 
  134. software or hardware that is damaged possibly from this program.

  136. 3.2 Specific Known Problems
  137. ---------------------------

  139. If you discover a bug, please report it either to my internet address or my
  140. mailing address listed in Section 4.2. It would greatly be appreciated. Also,
  141. if you have any suggestions, give them to me, or if you would like to add to
  142. Matchup baseball contact me.  If I use your idea I will give you a free copy
  143. with the new idea or feature.

  146. 1. Ugly colors in DOS version - Some graphics cards cannot handle the jump
  147.     from windows to DOS and the colors are really ugly.  Just run the
  148.     DOS game for a nicer look.
  149.  
  150. 2. Slow play-by-play - The play-by-play on some machines is too slow or
  151.     too fast, let me know if it is really bad and tell me what 
  152.     type of computer/speed you have.

  155. 3. Don't try to compile stats of a team with a lineup that has more than 
  156.     one player with the same name.

  158. 3.3 For Best Results, Tips

  161.    Play Matchup baseball in Windows in 640X480 256 colors.
  162.  
  163.    To Change lineups, Edit a team and enter the stats.
  164.  
  165.    To play a season, Rematch and compile stats with one pitcher for a number
  166.      of games.  Switch pitchers, and Rematch and compile.  Since players
  167.      never get hurt and always get At Bats, watch their At Bat totals
  168.      to be reasonable.
